Fabulous Martin D-18 Authentic 1939 Aged. Not just any other D-18, the acoustic guitar is made the old-school way using hot hide glue and period-correct specifications. Martin’s VTS aging system imbues their premium tonewoods with the character and harmonic richness of a vintage instrument.
This Martin D-18 Authentic 1939 Aged delivers the complex and warm tone of an original oldie. She is build with a premium solid Adirondack Spruce top and Honduran Mahogany back and sides using hot hide glue. These two classic tonewoods combined with old school construction techniques provide a solid foundation for the stunning tone she delivers right out of the case. Imagine what this one will do after three months of play in time. The stunning resonance of this beauty is also the result of the choice of lightweight tonewoods. With only 1.8 kg / 3.97 lbs she is also a lightweight. Martin started designing the D-18 Authentic 1939 Aged acoustic guitar by taking a 1939 D-18 from their museum to the Smithsonian Institute and performed a CAT scan to examine and catalog every detail of that amazing instrument. From the premium tonewoods to the spot-on detailing to the historically accurate bracing and hide-glue construction, the Martin D-18 Authentic 1939 Aged is as perfect as it gets.
The neck of this 1939 Aged is spot on with its 1 11/16″ / 43 mm nut width and c-shaped barrel and heel neck shape. The barrel/heel name refers to prewar shaped necks that get thicker when getting closer to the body. This not only contributes to the sustain and tone but also the feel of this ‘oldie’. I can tell you that this Aged 1939 feels and sound phenomenal. Very loose, resonant, rich tone. Click HERE for a sound impression!
