On this Preston Thompson 000-12, and for that matter on every classic 000-12 model, the bridge is placed more in the center of the lower bout thus making a more efficient use of the soundboard. The Honduran Mahogany neck has a nut width of 1 7/8″ – 48 mm and a string spacing of 2 3/8″ – 60 mm. Nice fat and wide neck, ideal for the large hands and very well to play due to flat C-shape neck. The neck size also contributes to the tone as well as giving the guitar lots of sustain. The slotted headstock allows an increased string angle at the nut. This contributes to the stability of the string movement and thus the tone.
Finally, like the original 000 model, this Thompson is built with a 24.9” / 635 mm scale length. Wood choices are master grade Adirondack Spruce top with herringbone trim and an awesome set of mastergrade Ziricote for the back and sides. Ziricote is a rare Rosewood species and without any doubt one of the very best tone woods due to acoustic attributes. Tonally there is the direct comparison with Brazilian Rosewood. Its grain and veins recreate figures like no other wood though. The 12 fret 000 body size is to date still one of the most beautiful model luthiers have ever created.
