This Martin D-45 Modern Deluxe is a new and luxurious version of Martin’s top-of-the-line Style 45 that was designed exclusively for the Modern Deluxe Series, marrying revered Martin specifications from the 1930s with bold, tone-enhancing innovations of the twenty-first century.
The Martin D-45 Modern Deluxe features a torrefied (VTS) premium Sitka Spruce top with scalloped, 5/16″ torrefied Golden Era Adirondack Red Spruce bracing attached with hide glue. Martin added carbon fiber/torrefied Adirondack spruce bridge plate and Liquidmetal® bridge pins to maximize energy transfer to the top without changing the tone. She has the great feeling Vintage Deluxe profile, a two-way adjustable truss-rod and the High-Performance Taper. This new profile is lower than other vintage necks, with a V-apex that is softened to be barely noticeable. The real secret to this new neck is found in what Martin refers to as its “skewed” shape. The deepest part of the neck is off-center and gradually changes position, to better fit into the nook of the hand where the palm and thumb come together. It adjusts to the shape of the hand as it moves up the neck. This way the hand does not have to adjust to the shape of the neck. It simply must be experienced to be fully appreciated!
Most musical instrument frets are made from nickel-infused brass called German silver or nickel silver because there is enough nickel to bestow the silvery appearance. These EVO frets are nickel-free and made of copper that’s fortified by an additional 5% tin, 1% iron, and 0.1% titanium. They don’t wear down as quickly as normal frets and their subdued burnished gold appearance doesn’t clash with the flashier fret markers. So, the glamorous ornamentation of the headstock migrates down the neck in an understated fashion, before evolving into the woodier aesthetic of the guitar’s body. She is dressed in the Diamonds and Squares long pattern fretboard inlay, Abalone position markers, EVO Gold frets, European flamed Maple binding and an Abalone Martin script logo in the headstock.
