Special Lowden F35 Bog Oak – Lutz Spruce build with ancient Bog Oak back and sides paired with a Lutz Spruce soundboard. The Bog Oak itself has been carbon dated to an astonishing 5300 years old.
This Lowden F35 Bog Oak – Lutz Spruce is stunning. She’s built with Oak that comes from the bogs where the trees have been buried for over 5000 years or more. The Oak wood is almost petrified and almost black in colour. It is harder than normal young Oak and more suitable as a tone wood as a result. Bog oak produces a deep, resonant, and warm tone. The ancient, mineral-rich nature of the wood (often thousands of years old) gives it a complex overtone profile, which adds richness and sustain. It has a very focused, tight bass response — not boomy, but controlled and present. This works beautifully in fingerstyle and drop tunings and is perfect for perfect for jazz and melodies.
Lutz Spruce is a naturally occurring hybrid of Sitka spruce and either White spruce or Engelmann spruce. Its tonal characteristics sit between those of Sitka and Engelmann. It’s more responsive and sensitive than Sitka and has more headroom and richer overtones. This sweetheart offers adroom than Engelmann, like Sitka — can handle aggressive playing strong projection, with a clear and focused fundamental and is sSlightly warmer and more colorful than Sitka, less bright than Adirondack. Awesome combination built with care and precision by the Lowden team. She’s in near mint condition.
