Ultra rare Guild Orpheum D Slope Shoulder build by the Guild Custom Shop team under the supervision of the legendary luthier Ren Ferguson at the New Hartford (USA) workshop.
This pretty Guild Orpheum D-14 is a tonemachine extraordinaire build with mastergrade Adirondack en Mahogany. Beautifully crafted and rich-sounding in all registers. Her design is based on the golden age of U.S. acoustic guitar design and construction. Guild set out to build a pre-war guitar with that indescribable, but very appealing tone as Guild would have built them when they would have been around in the twenties and thirties. The hired Ren Ferguson to overlook the extremely limited production at their old New Hartford workshop in Connecticut.
Because Guild didn’t exist in the 1930s, much of the inspiration for the Slope Shoulder 14-Fret Rosewood Dreadnought came from other manufacturers’ vintage models. The Gibson influence is obvious – both in the Guild’s physical dimensions and its overall harmonic character, though the Guild Orpheum is not merely a clone of any existing Gibson guitar’s feel or sound. Thus, the Orpheum D now ranks among the finest Guild auditorium-style guitars ever made. Using a hide glue construction, an Adirondack Red Spruce top with scalloped Adirondack bracing and solid Genuine Mahogany back and sides, combined with a Genuine Mahogany neck produces a warm, balanced and articulate tone with rich bass and a particular sweet singing treble.
Premium features also include traditional hot hide-glue construction, a 20-fret Ebony fingerboard with pearl-dot inlays, elegant cream body binding, bone nut and a nitrocellulose lacquer neck finish. Other features include a Faux Tortoise pickguard, pyramid-style Ebony bridge with Bone saddle and pins, Guild-logo Gotoh SE-700 open-back tuners with cream buttons, and deluxe hard-shell case. She is in excellent condition with minor dings and scratches. Fret work is very good. A full functioning Fishman Matrix pickup system completes the package.
