This fine Gibson 1952 J-185 comes with the thermally aged Sitka Spruce top and big leaf Maple back and sides. She captures the feel and tone of the post-war classic. And she’s lightweight!
The Gibson 1952 J-185 is a Custom Shop Historic reissue of one of the most fabled Gibson’s of all time. The J-185 was originally released in 1951. Designed to be just slightly smaller in proportion to the larger SJ-200, the J-185 used similar appointments, Sitka Spruce and Maple back and sides for its construction. This Custom Historic 1952 J-185 is enhanced with a thermally aged Sitka spruce top. Sporting classic J-185 appointments including iconic Maltese crosses inlaid in mother-of-pearl on the open slot bridge, this is a rare model, highly desired by artists and performers worldwide.
From a tonal point of view, she’s balanced and focused tone. She’s a great fit for players that want an all-round guitar. Great strummer, picker and recording guitar. The light weight (1.85 kg, 4,07 lbs) adds to the vibrancy and, combined with the short scale, comfort to hold and play this beauty. A nice K&K Mini Pure is fitted, ready to go live. Her condition is excellent. Listen to a sound impression by Quentin King here:
