This 2003 Martin HD-28 is iconic, powerful, and timeless classic. She almost 25 year old beauty oozes tone with her standard X, scalloped braces. Classic styling, ideal strummer and flatpicker. A true classic!
This Martin HD-28 is the last series with the revered standard X-bracing combines the properties of the rear-shifted and forward shifted bracing. This pattern offers the best tonal balance and warmt of the high notes with strong fundamental. Of course this model comes with the classic Herringbone purfling refering to the pre-war specs. The Sitka top aged well and delivers a warm tone. She has excellent volume (it’s still a dread), but with a slightly more focused sound compared to forward-shifted bracing. Notes feel a touch quicker and more direct. Her overtones come with a wonderful harmonic richness. it’s the classic Martin dreadnought tone. Rich and full, but with a tighter low end and a bit more balance across the spectrum. More controlled than the forward-shifted HD-28V/Modern Deluxe, but still warmer and more resonant than a straight-braced D-28.
Frets are in excellent condition. The binding on the back was replaces once in her life wich is visible for the sharp eye but not noticable at glance. Very minor play marks but not even remote to serious. The baby has been well cared for. Thus her condition is rated as excellent.
