Description
This vintage and beautifully preserved 1980 Martin D12-35 is one of the most soulful and collectible 12-strings ever built. This 46 year old slope shoulder beauty oozes tone with her standard X, non-scalloped braces. Classic styling, great looks. A true classic!
The Martin D12-35 was Martin’s flagship 12-string design, pairing a 12-fret dreadnought body with solid Sitka Spruce and a three-piece East Indian Rosewood back and sides. Her tone is rich, open, and incredibly dynamic. Her non-scalloped 1/4# bracing not only hold the pull of the strings but the also contribute to a cleaner tone for recording and have better note separation. Plus, they stay tighter under heavy strumming and age into a very balanced, articulate tone. The 12-fret neck design places the bridge deeper into the body, giving the guitar a fuller, warmer response with exceptional sustain and projection. Chords bloom effortlessly, fingerpicked passages sound orchestral, and open tunings absolutely come alive. Whether you’re after vintage folk textures, classic rock jangle, or cinematic acoustic depth, this guitar delivers in a way modern instruments rarely can.
This 1980 example is in very good condition, showing only the kind of tasteful cosmetic wear you’d expect from a well-cared-for 46-year-old instrument. The neck is straight and the bridge has been shaved slightly to compensate for the slight bulging of the rop. She is structurally solid, has a very clean bridge plate and tuners work perfect. Action is low at 2.1 mm @ 12th fret/lowE . No anoying dings or scratches. Finally a Fishman active undersaddle pickup is installed. This beauty is ready to go live. Listen to a sound impression here:
