This Martin Custom Shop 00c is built along the traditional 00 body size. According to the Martin records this model date back to 1873 when it started as a 12-fret guitar. However, the 14-fret model originates from the 1930s during the transition from 12-to 14-fret instruments with their longer, narrower necks and shorter, square-topped bodies. Until the late 90-ties, the 00-model was one of Martin’s biggest-selling models of all time. Famous players are Bob Dylan, Steve Howe, Tim O’Brien, Cindy Combs, Lonnie Donegan, Tom Waits and of course Muddy Waters. This classic 00 size Martin offers a lot of beautiful tone in a relatively small body. A 00 has the same depth as a 000, but the slightly smaller top brings all the frets a little closer to the body. They are ideal for smaller guitarists, or players who want a petite playmate at home or in the studio. Plug in the factory installed D-Tar Multi Source Pickup and Preamp system, and you’re good to go. Make no mistake; these are full-bodied guitars and sound like it. The short scale (632 mm) 14-fret and the cutaway allow easy access to the higher regions where you can find the warm and sweet high notes that come from the Cuban Mahogany and High-Altitude Swiss Spruce. Cuban Mahogany is prized for its warmth, High-altitude Swiss Spruce is selected from old trees that grow very slowly at an altitude of 2000 meters or 7000ft. Cuban Mahogany has a long history as a tonewood for necks as well as tops and back & sides. Cuban Mahogany tends to be denser than Honduran and hence has more rosewood like qualities, with a better developed midrange and low end. Supply is very limited and only a few builders are able to buy premium sets of this prized tonewood. And of course, Martin is one of them!
