Alpine spruce is a tonewood with the longest tradition in music instrument making, having been used in making guitars, violins, and pianos for centuries. At present, premium Alpine Spruce is an exclusive tonewood because the available sets needed to meet the premium Martin Custom Shop quality standard is limited.
From a tonal perspective, Alpine Spruce offers more focus, with slightly stronger fundamentals, very sweet high notes and lots of overtones. Paired with super straight-grained quarter sawn Indian Rosewood, this awesome guitar has that ‘reverby’ sound and complexity with an abundance of overtones and great sustain.
