This Martin CS 00-28 Marquis is build with a premium set of Madagascar Rosewood. Awesome and now rare tonewood. The wood is renowned for its beauty and tonal properties. In this grand concert size body shape and combined with an Adirondack Red Spurce top, she produces a warm, balanced tone with rich overtones. The resonant wood vibrates freely, sustaining notes and chords with a mellow character. Also, this wood has a very nice tap tone and looks stunning. She offers a stronger and authoritative tone with a piano-like clarity and more depth for a 00 body size. Madagascar Rosewood tends to have a slightly “rounder” and more musical bass than Brazilian, but with similar richness. The mids are clear and create great note separation. Complex chords sound airy and open. The highs are brilliant and sparkling, but with a glassy smoothness and an abundance of overtones, especially since the Adirondack top has opened up in full. Adirondack has a lot of headroom, so you can dig in with a pick or strum hard without the sound compressing yet still she responds well to light fingerpicking.
But there is more. Martin added preserved Mammoth Ivory nut, saddle and bridge pins. These enhance her natural voice, adds clarity, warmth, and a subtle increase of sustain. Also the nice fat and wide 1930’s full V-neck adding even more sustain and volume. The overall vibe is lush, open, and powerful for a small-bodied guitar, with a refined, orchestral quality that still retains the 00’s intimacy. Very comfortable to hold to the body. In short: the perfect fingerstyle guitar with the legendary pre-war Martin tone. Like all Martin’s from this era the binding came loose and was repaired. Overall she’s in excellent condition with minimal sign of use.
