This 012-28 Modern Deluxe was inspired by the 12-fret herringbone 0-28 that once was the most popular flattop acoustic guitar, from the time of the Civil War and the advent of Americana music to the birth of modern Country Music and Jazz during the 1920s. She plays and sound like a dream. Each individual note presents a complex balance of frequencies and overtones, an astoundingly rich natural reverb from the body, and a sustain that seems to have several dovetailing stages as it crests and falls. This is a concert-grade instrument. The bass response, EQ contour, and warmth in both are rich and undeniable. The amazing bass response is there whether you play directly over the soundhole or back by the bridge. The midrange is never harsh or nasal on either, but full, defined, and robust; the highs are fat and sweet.
Compared to the fine Martin Standard Series, the Modern Deluxe Series features a torrefied Sitka Spruce top with scalloped, 1/4″ torrefied Adirondack Spruce bracing attached with natural protein glue, carbon fiber/torrefied Adirondack spruce bridge plate; short-scale neck with Vintage Deluxe profile, two-way adjustable titanium support rod, fretboard with High Performance Taper, Diamonds and Squares long pattern fretboard inlay, abalone position markers, EVO Gold frets, Liquidmetal® bridge pins, European flamed Maple binding and an Abalone script logo in the headstock.
