Description
This Kalamazoo KG-21 is a small sized Jazz-box type guitar built by the Gibson Mandolin-Guitar Manufacturing Co., Ltd. in Kalamazoo, Michigan, USA in 1939.
The Kalamazoo KG-21 is the Gibson-built L-00 shaped Archtop model with a deep body with an Adirondack Red Spruce top and Mahogany back, sides and neck. Gibson used simple appointments to keep the price down. The guitar’s neck is carved into a pronounced V- profile and has a nice chunky feel. She has a rich and warm voice, with nice trebles and a punchy midrange. Despite the small body that bass notes are pretty good. She oozes the vintage vibe and is an ideal guitar for roots guitarists, slide and flat pickers. Also, songwriters and bluegrass folks will appreciate her.
She has been played a lot. Earlier in life, some cracks were repaired. A non-original pickup was removed, and the hole was professionally filled. She sounds lovely and tuned in open G she is just awesome! Frets were all original and showing a considerable amount of play wear. So we had her professionally re-fretted and had the non-original bridge replaced by a re-manufactured copy of the original wooden bridge. Awesome tone and playability is the result. Despite the repair work, she still looks original with wear & tear that come with age dressed in that oh so two-tone lovely vintage Sunburst.
