Here is a rare 2012 Gibson Jackson Browne model A, build at the Gibson’s Acoustic Custom Shop. This is a piano like tone canon and a fitting tribute to Gibson’s pre-war 12-fret big-bodied guitars.

The Gibson Jackson Browne model A was inspired by Gibson’s legendary 1930s-era Roy Smeck model – several of which are among Browne’s own prized collection of vintage Gibson’s – known for its big tone, pure traditional acoustic sound, and flawless projection during concert performance. Responsive and powerful, the “Jackson Browne” has a wide neck, deep round shoulders, and the scale of a classical guitar, with 12 frets to the body. It is as much a fully modern instrument as a vital link to Gibson’s heritage, with innovations including a sophisticated pickup offering unparalleled sound reproduction when amplified, and exceptional gain before feedback capability. Back and sides are English Walnut. The fantastic tonewood is stiff and light. Clear high notes remind of Koa, but the midrange is more present, as is the low end. Walnut offers a similar low end like Rosewood, especially after being played in.

This guitar really shines in fingerpicking and open-position lead and rhythm. The openness of the fingerboard really lets your right hand stretch out. It also gives people with larger fingers ample room to play left-hand chords cleanly. Though this guitar is really meant for songwriters, rhythm guitarists, and traditional-music lead players, you can play up to the 10th position with no problem. It should be remembered that one of the greatest bluegrass lead players of all time, Norman Blake, plays a 12-fret guitar.

She is equipped with the Trans Audio Amulet™ pickup system, Jackson’s amplification system of choice, which was installed later on. This is a true-stereo acoustic guitar pickup and preamplifier system designed for the professional or semi-professional musician who is not satisfied with traditional saddle or magnetic pickups. The Amulet system utilizes two of Trance Audio’s Acoustic Lens transducers, which are mounted to the soundboard on the inside of the guitar. The Acoustic Lens accurately reproduces the warm, woody textures generated by the guitar’s soundboard. This beauty is in excellent condition with only minor fretwear and two tiny dings on the top.
