This 2005 Bourgeois Vintage OM is a masterpiece, paying homage to the classic OM’s of yesteryear while incorporating all Dana’s cutting edge techniques in modern lutherie. Naturally aged Italian Alpine Spruce top over an absolutely stunning Master Grade Madagascar Rosewood back and sides make this guitar a player’s dream! With a vintage vibe and all the right appointments, this guitar is a versatile as it gets.
She is loud and clear, very articulate with a balance and plenty of sustain along with wonderful overtones. Played with soft fingerstyle she responds to the lightest touch. The sound is just beautiful. The Madagascar Rosewood produces a bell like chimes with beautiful overtones. Dana’s legendary voicing skills are very much evident here Dana’s OM models (14 Fret 25.5” scale) is a smaller version of our Dreadnought. Words like superb balance, clarity of voice, and sustaining top register pop up. It’s not surprising, though, that more than a few players appreciate these same characteristics not only for flatpicking but also for a variety of other applications.
This guitar has been played a lot live and in various studios, but still is in very good condition. Various knicks and dings on headstock, body and neck show disclose some of the work she has done. A fret job was done some year ago and frets are great for many more years. Also, the owner had a double Dalmatian pickguard (Collings style) installed, adding to the character and story of this beauty. On top of that, a fine K&K Mini Pure was also installed. So, she ain’t like new but perfect for the player, the stage, the studio. And no worries of another ding. Listen to a sound impression here:
