This jaw dropping Santa Cruz OM Grand has a unique flavor that somehow oozes a “vintage” vibe. She features a big, complex tone with a warm and powerful low end. Richard Hoover and this team outdid themselves on this one owner guitar.
OM sized acoustic guitars are extremely popular among acoustic guitar players. They are comfortable to play and tend to have a well-defined tone. The Santa Cruz OM Grand is all that and more. The story of the OM Grand is a collaboration between SC’s founder, Richard Hoover, and his friends at The Denver Folklore Center. The request of the center was to have a custom OM with more power, and the result is the OM Grand – a larger bodied OM. The OM Grand is a great guitar for band playing, as its loudness is sufficient. Also, solo artists who seek for the openness of the OM with a bit more headroom and body, might find the Santa Cruz OM Grand perfect for their needs. The strength of the OM Grand isn’t limited to sheer volume. The inherent power of this guitar will generate a forceful bloom, requiring less effort with no loss of nuance.
This Santa Cruz OM is build with the classic combination of master grade Italian Alpine Spruce and a beautiful set of straight-grained Palo Escrito, also named Mexican Rosewood, for the back and sides. Palo Escrito is a true Rosewood (Dalbergia Paloescrito) that is lighter than Indian Rosewood and similar to Brazilian and adds a lively tone. Top-notch bass, singing mids, with sustain, volume and projection. Just Awesome! The figured Mahogany neck has a slight V shape and terminates with a volute behind the headstock. It’s capped with an ivoroid bound fingerboard that is adorned with the mother-of-pearl SCGC mini logo at the 14th fret, a cowboy rope soundhole and top inlay. Her construction is predictably first-class, with quality materials everywhere. Her condition is excellent. Listen to a sound impression here:
