This Martin D-28 Authentic 1941 is build with Madagascar Rosewood and premium Adirondack Red Spruce. Feels and sounds like a true vintage Martin. From a strummers and flatpickers point of view, this is the ultimate Dreadnought!
When replicating a Martin D-28 Authentic 1941, where does one begin with a rare and highly coveted historical relic like this one? When it came time to make an exacting reproduction of the king of guitars, the fine folks at C.F. Martin happened to have one residing in their own museum. And it provided a wealth of information so that it could be reborn as the Martin D-28 Authentic 1941. She offers all the goodness that comes with Martin’s Authentic Series instruments, like full Hide Glue construction, a genuine Mahogany neck, quarter sawn and hand-scalloped X bracing. Plus, the ultra-thin Nitro finish, which is also important for the tone and looks of this beauty. The production was limited from 2013 to 2016. This is the non-VTS version, which offers awesome tone that has developed for over 10 years which is instantly heard in her voice: open, balanced, sweet high notes and a clear fundamental base.
From a strummers and flatpickers point of view, this is the ultimate Dreadnought! The 1 11/16″nut beats the later 1 3/4″ nut by a mile when it comes to comfort while playing bar-chords en high speed picking. When it comes to tone, she had me at the first strum, because of its ringing purity, impressive depth, effortless volume, and her expansive, open, room-filling presence. When it comes to dynamics, it sounds lovely when played with a very light touch. The clear and pretty ring of the barely-picked notes provides as much Wow Factor as the thrilling power that leaps from the sound hole when played full out. Combined with the easy to play neck, this is a tone machine extraordinaire! She had the usual binding issue from this era, which has been expertly repaired. No dings, scratches, just some light strumming marks. Overall, she is in excellent condition. Listen to a sound impression here:
