Stylish Martin D-18E Modern Deluxe: what a tone, what a good-looking guitar! Classic style with modern playability and definitely Custom Shop quality specs and tone!
Martin’s D-18E requires little introduction. This Mahogany dreadnought and her Rosewood sister are the most iconic flattop models ever made. The Mahogany Dread is preferred by many pickers because of her bright, clear, and balanced tonality. Suitable for all kinds of music, including fingerstyle in dropped-D tuning. The D-18E MD includes Fishman’s Aura VT Blend electronics. Incorporating Fishman’s latest Aura HD technology, the package uses a custom Aura “image” created using recordings of an actual D-18 Modern Deluxe guitar, which is used to process the tone of the Acoustic Matrix undersaddle pickup. “VT” refers to the system’s volume and tone controls, which are mounted unobtrusively in the bass side of the soundhole, facing the “Blend” control (used to adjust the amount of Aura signal) that is installed in the treble side.
This Martin D-18E Modern Deluxe combines traditional design with contemporary features. The Sitka Spruce top is aged for Vintage tone (VTS-treatment). Back and sides are genuine Mahogany and all is constructed using natural protein glues. Like vintage D-18s, the instrument has an Ebony fingerboard and bridge and Adirondack scalloped, forward-shifted X-bracing. In addition, Martin’s contemporary High Performance Taper neck, the D-18E Modern Deluxe has a composite carbon-fiber bridge plate and a hybrid titanium-steel truss rod to keep the weight down as well as JesCar EvoGold frets, Liquidmetal bridge pins, Abalone position markers, Diamonds and Squares long pattern fretboard inlay, European flamed Maple binding and an Abalone Martin script logo in the headstock.
The new Vintage Deluxe neck profile is publicly referred to as “slightly skewed.” Rather than having the apex of the carved profile running straight and directly at the center of the neck, with identical shaping on either side, this new neck shape is slightly asymmetrical, to fit the shape of the human hand in a more-natural way. Or rather, it is a new neck shape inspired by old Martin neck shapes from the 1920s and 1930s. Marvelously comfortable! Without a question, the D-18E Modern Deluxe would be a great choice for many contemporary dreadnought players. With a great acoustic sound and the ability to plug-and-play onstage, the guitar just might be the one-guitar solution that many have been waiting for! Mint condition.
