In commemoration of their 45th year Guild presents the 45th Anniversary Guitar. Hand-built by the Guild Custom shop luthiers, this limited edition model showcases some of the most distinctive features of Guild acoustics since the company was founded in 1952.

Between 1997 and 1999, the Nashville Guild Custom shop was created by Bruce Bolen (Fender) and Tim Shaw (Guild), they waged up and trained some top luthiers (Mark Kendrick) and custom created top models like the D-100 for George Straight, the double-necked Crossroads for Slash, the Finesse and Art Deco and built 45 works of art: the 45th anniversary limited edition! They even struck a deal with Bob Benedetto to re-think and custom build the X-500, X-700 and the Artist Award alongside his La Venezia and the Fratello. In Nashville….music city number 1!

The body of the 45th Anniversary model measures 15″ x 20″ x 4″. This distinctive Guild F-shape features greater body depth than other instruments of a similar size, and helps produce the clear and balanced tone associated with Guilds. For the 45th anniversary, the luthiers in the Custom Shop have hand-bent solid curly maple for the back and sides, and chosen a very nice quarter sawn AAAA-grade Sitka spruce for the top. Each 45th Anniversary top is hand-tuned for maximum performance and features scalloped and shaved top bracing in Guild’s “floating X” pattern. This pattern, common to all Guild Custom Shop guitars, locks the main tone bars into the rims at the waist for stability, while allowing the lower bout to flex freely.

The neck is a 5-ply curly Maple and Mahogany, most commonly seen on the legendary Artist Award. The peghead is faced with solid Ebony and showcases the traditional “inverted G” pattern in mother-of-pearl. For this 45th Anniversary model, custom shop luthiers painstakingly inlay the top, fingerboard, peghead and back strip with rare Paua Abalone from New Zealand. The guitar also includes an Ivory nut and compensated saddle, made from fossilized mammoth Ivory found legally on the tundra in Alaska. The 45th Anniversary is limited to an individually numbered series of only 45 guitars and is supplied with a special “black alligator” covered case.

From a tonal point of view this is a strummers and fingerpickers dream. Delicate and creamy tones come forward when strings ar touched with hand or pick. Really nice and warm. Decent bass tones, strong mids and sparkling highs. Delicious!! The guitar is in excellent condition and was played (as I would certainly advise!). Some minor fretwear, minimal dings and a fine laquer crack running along on the top from bridge to end block where the bookmatched Sitka parts meet. Really cool and great sounding guitar!
