This 2011 Gibson Explorer Sammy Hagar Signature reflects Sammy’s inimitable style. She is the product of a Red Rocker’s heavy-rocking, hard-driving new guitar. Crafted in the image of the original Explorer of 1958 – a guitar that was blindingly ahead of its time back in the day – and graced with an original blend of Sammy’s Red Rocker and Chickenfoot styling, the Sammy Hagar Explorer is an eye-catching axe from every angle, and equipped for everything from searing to sublime tonal adventures, too.

Gibson first started selling Explorers in 1958 and their design was way too radical for the time so they were discontinued a year later. Today these originals almost reached the one million dollar price tag! In 1976 Gibson started the first reissue of the original 1958 design. The most important difference between this Explorer and the Reissue models is the pickups. This guitar comes with a unique but nice combination of Gibson pickups. It has a 57 classic in the neck position and a Burstbucker 3 in the bridge. Other unique features are the Sammy Hagar Red Rocker paintjob and a creme pickguard. The neck and body have creme binding. The neck profile is a nice thin 60s style.

This guitar plays really well and fast. The upper frets are easy to reach because of the Explorers design. The radical shape actually gives the guitar a perfect balance for playing while standing up. The neck will come to rest at a perfect angle due to the large body acting as a counter weight. The binding on the neck is nicely rounded to make the neck feel very smooth. She weighs only 3.55kg/7.8 Lbs.

The former owner was not very careful with the guitar thus she came in with a number of dings on corners and other surfaces. We had our lacquer wizard work hard on these spots and he was able to repaired all of them. Now the are barely visible. Original lacquer, no refinish! Unfortunately the original truss rod cover was replaced with a standard Gibson cover. For those reasons we rate the condition of this guitar as EXCELLENT.
