Description

1965 Gibson SG Standard with the desirable transitional neck and original PAT pickups. Original with normal wear and charming weather checking and dressed in an unfaded Cherry Red nitro finish!

Very cool 1965 Gibson SG Standard in great condition. This sweety is one of the most iconic electric guitars in rock history. Many legendary guitarists either owned or are strongly associated with that era’s SG. Clapton played a 1965 Gibson SG Standard nicknamed the “Lucy” after leaving the Yardbirds. Pete Townshend (The Who) switched to a 1965 SG Standard around 1965–1966 as the SG’s lightweight body allowed his aggressive windmill and smashing techniques. And of course Angus Young (AC/DC), perhaps the most famous SG player of all time. His cherry-red SG with slim neck became his signature guitar. The 1965 model’s fast neck is often cited as perfect for his frenetic, blues-based playing style.

She has a beautiful unfaded Cherry Red nitro finish, with a nice weather checking and some light play wear and the usual dings and wear normal for this age though the back is very clean, indicating that the owners treated here pretty well. Tuners are in great condition though the G-tuners has had a slight bump but still works great. She has no breaks or repairs only two minor changes: a replaced ground wire and 3 screws  on the pickup rings are changed. Both humbucker pickups are the original and unopened Pat. Number pickups (PAT’s). In other words, untouched original ’65 PAT’s with the black bobin wires and their factory sticker still in place. Compared to the mythic original PAF, these PAT practically sound the same. All four 500K pots date week 29 of 1965. This SG neck has the desirable transitional size with a nut widht of 40.3 mm and the 12″fretboard radius. Like most Gibsons from mid ’65 this beauty has chrome pickup covers. All other parts are Nickel plated. Frets are a slightly worn on the usual spots but still have plenty of mileage ahead. She sound awesome and plays like butter. She’s in EXCELLENT condition! This is a real cool blues and rock machine. She comes with the original case too! You can’t go wrong with this one, either as a collector, a player or both.
