This exquisite 2011 Martin 000-42 incorporates high-end detailing with its classic design to produce the perfect acoustic guitar for just about any musician. To many, this 42-style 000 is by far the most tasteful take on Martin’s Traditional Design and a top model for every other boutique guitar builder!
The Martin 000-42 resembles the vintage style 000 guitars and is like a hammer in your toolbox. She is versatile enough to be used in blues, folk, or just about any other acoustic genre. This Martin 000-42 has forward-shifted, scalloped 5/16″ bracing for an almost perfect balance in volume of low, mid and high notes. This 000-42 has a top-grade Sitka Spruce top that is more responsive than Adirondack tops you may find on most custom shop models. While Sitka doesn’t produce the same roar as Adirondack, it is far more articulate, making it a great guitar for recording purposes. The Sitka top is paired with an Indian Rosewood body that gives the guitar those rich overtones that speak to a lot of guitarists. The 000 or also called Triple-O has the shorter 24.9″ / 630 mm scale length compared to her OM sister making the tone is a little less loud but softer and sweet. That is why guitarists like Eric Clapton and John Mayer love this model! This is definitely an all-rounder preferring not only fingerstyle but also flatpicking and strumming. One’s hands will appreciate the short scale’s lower string tension or her slightly laid-back character when pushed with a strong attack.
Martin 000 guitars have been around for over 80 years due to their widespread and long-lasting popularity. Used by some of the more famous acoustic guitarists like Eric Clapton or Bob Dylan. The Martin 000-42 uses the company’s second most extravagant detailing. In addition to the Style-42 Abalone inlay around the edge, this acoustic guitar features gold Waverly open back tuners and Ivoriod binding that has developed a nice vintage patina. These aesthetic details elegantly accompany the beautiful tonewoods without looking gaudy or out of place. There’s something magic about this Martin 000-42 that you’ll love. While it’s not necessarily a collector’s item—as everyone’s opinion differs on that front—it will hold its value today better than any other guitar you invest in. The guitar is in excellent condition. There was a binding repair on both sides of the waist but if I hadn’t mentioned it you would not have noticed that. Excellent repair job!
